'American Idol' 2012: Top 7 revealed (say goodbye to DeAndre Brackensick)

The "American Idol" Top 7 contestants were revealed Thursday night.

Were you surprised?

Coming off the "American Idol" Big '80s night on Wednesday, the Top 8 entertained with their renditions of songs by Whitney Houston, Genesis, DeBarge, Cyndi Lauper and others.

The Bottom 3:

DeAndre Brackensick: He performed DeBarge's "I Like It," and the judges loved it. But mentor Jimmy Iovine says it wasn't as good as the judges thought, and he will be battling Hollie in the Bottom 2.

Hollie Cavanagh: Poor Hollie. Mentor Jimmy Iovine was Simon Cowell-like in his assessment of the young singer's big voice. And brutally honest, too. He is right; Hollie is struggling to look comfortable and find the songs to match that voice. She sang Irene Cara's "Flashdance (What a Feeling)."

Elise Testone: She is the last one to be named to the Bottom 3, and it's no shocker because her version of Foreigner's "I Wanna Know What Love Is" does nothing to showcase her talented voice. The judges said it was the wrong song. Jimmy said it was the right song, but that Elise just delivered an "old-fashioned choke." Ouch.

Hollie is the first one given the all systems clear, and is safe.

It comes down to Elise and DeAndre.

Going home: DeAndre, unless the judges save him. He decides to sing "Master Blaster" and not the DeBarge song from '80s Night.

Will they use the save?

Jennifer Lopez, who has been one of his biggest supporters, says No, "I only get one vote, and unfortunately we're sending you home tonight."

Those safe:

Joshua Ledet: He was pretty incredible, singing "If You Don't Know Me by Now" by Simply Red, and he is the first one safe. Host Ryan Seacrest says Joshua is feeling under the weather. He acts like he has the flu. I'm glad he will get another chance next week. I'm still trying to warm up to his annoying vocal runs.

Jessica Sanchez: Mentor Jimmy Iovine says Jessica needs BIG songs to match her BIG voice. Amen. I disagree that Joshua was better than Jessica.
(She sang "How Will I Know?" by Whitney Houston.)

Colton Dixon: He changed up his hair color yesterday, but that's about it. He still remains as one of the show's best performers. He performed a rock version of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time."

LaiSkylar Laine: The country singer got a boost of support from former "Idol" star Kellie Pickler on Thursday's show. After performing, Pickler said she is proud of Skylar, and even predicted all of this year's Top 8 singers will get record deals.
(Skylar performed "Wind Beneath My Wings.")

Phillip Phillips: He is the last one safe, and as I said yesterday, he is not delivering the performances to stay with the head of the pack. Jimmy says that Phillip is playing it safe. Phillip says he's just doing what he does and not trying to be something he is not.
